Master of Physiotherapy (MPT)

The Master of Physiotherapy course is a 2-year fulltime program with 4 semesters leading to the degree that equips the student with analytical, evidence based and hands-on learning skills. The program is generic in nature and has a component of additional learning of one speciality leading to an elective in that speciality.

Goals of the course:

  • To prepare a postgraduate student towards professional autonomy, promote community health through his/her professional practice by referral as well as first contact mode using evidence based practices.
  • To impart research knowledge to validate techniques during professional practice to improve quality care of health care delivery.
  • To develop appropriate professional relationships in multi-disciplinary set up to provide total care to the patient
  • To update the students with recent advances in the professional practice and provide them opportunities to think, reason and practice towards excellent patient care.
  • To achieve skills in patients handling and professional teaching to others.
  • Inculcate skills in patient care handling involving communication skills, confidence, clinical reasoning, counseling and research. .
  • Inculcate the quality of patient care handling with ethical values following bioethical principles, and able to provide rational justification for ethical decisions
  • To train the graduates to execute professional practice through professional ethics code.

Eligibility And Admission Procedure

Candidates who have passed full time regular B.Sc. (PT)/ BPT degree/ BPT Condensed degree (2 years) from this University or any other University in India or abroad recognized as equivalent by The West Bengal University of Health Sciences. Candidates from other Universities will have to produce Migration Certificate from their respective Institutes.

No candidates shall be admitted for the post graduate course unless the candidate has obtained and produced the eligibility certificate issued by The West Bengal University of Health Sciences. The candidate has to make the application to the University with the following documents along with the prescribed fee.

  • Passed Full time regular BPT/B.Sc (P.T) BPT Condensed (2 years) provisional/ degree certificate issued by the respective University.
  • Mark sheets of all the University examinations passed.
  • Proof of SC/ST.
  • Student who completed BPT in distance mode is not eligible.

Candidates should obtain the eligibility certificate before the last date for admission as notified by the University.
